Why isn't it giving me a list?

usually, when i plug in my usb mp3 player, windows gives me a list of what i want to do next like: open folder to view files, take no action, etc. now it doesnt do that anymore. and i really need to have different options right now, so how do i get my computer to think the mp3 has never been plugged in before?
